Outdoor Education
About us
Every other week, on Thursdays and Fridays, students at Crestwood get the opportunity with their class to head outside (in the fall & spring) and indoors (in winter) with our Outdoor Education program!
We partner with two organizations, Field Edventures and AmeriCorps Farm to School with Rooted.org, to lead our educational programming.
Examples of some of the fun we have:
Prairie restoration
Working in our school forest
Harvesting apples and making apple cider
Making salsa with the blender bike
Planting gardens
Learning about composting
Growing and learning about microgreens
Volunteer
We are always looking for volunteers from the community to join in our efforts. If you enjoy being outside and working with children, we'd love to have you volunteer with us!
Volunteering opportunities are available during the school day to work with classes and in the evenings and weekends for cleanup, watering, and weeding.
If you are interested in getting involved in this type of work, please reach out to Connie Allen at cmallen2@madison.k12.wi.us.
Earth Week!
One of our wonderful volunteers, Karen, took a walk in our beautiful Crestwood Woods and discusses the various flora that our scholars can find.

We have monthly meetings on the 2nd Wednesday of the month from 3:15-4:15. When it is nice out, we meet at the picnic tables behind Crestwood, or you can always join us on Zoom!
