The Cricket Dash is Coming to Crestwood October 9th! Mark your calendars for an afternoon of fun as we cheer on students in 4K-5th grade. Families are invited to attend the event to celebrate our school community. In addition, this is our largest fundraiser of the year, and we need your help to make it a success.
Pledge envelopes went home last Friday in your child’s Friday Folder. Directions are inside the envelope sharing how to set-up an online account (3 easy steps!) or they are also attached here. Cash/check donations can be collected in the envelope and returned to Crestwood by October 15th.
We are also in need of parent volunteers to help make this event a success. Please consider signing up for a time using this sign-up link!
All students will receive a free Crestwood Spirit Shirt courtesy of CAPT. Thank you to last year’s donors and volunteers for helping CAPT raise the money to purchase these shirts. Teachers have already worked with CAPT to gather student shirt sizes, so guardians, you don’t need to do anything! Crestwood Scholars will receive the free Student Spirit Shirt before the Cricket Dash. The FREE Student Spirit Shirt features our Crestwood Cricket on the front with our ‘Chirp’ logo on back - see the photo above!
Additional Crestwood spirit gear for students and families will be available for purchase through the online spirit store coming soon! We will have new designs on apparel items such as sweatshirts and soft T’s (think your favorite shirt!), as well as other items such as hats and water bottles. Get ready to get your school spirit on. More to come soon!
This year, we are excited to welcome a new staff liaison for Outdoor Ed., Leslie Dressler, and a new gardener-in-residence, Maddy Belter. Take a minute to meet them both!!!
My name is Leslie (Ms. Dressler) and I am so excited to be Crestwood's staff lead for Outdoor Ed this year. I love learning in the outdoors. My goal is to help Crestwood enhance our learning experiences across all grade levels by incorporating our beautiful outdoor learning spaces and environment directly into our curriculum where it fits best. Please consider joining us this year. There are many ways to get involved - volunteering with classrooms on Fridays with our Gardener in Residence, working on Outdoor Ed workdays (2-3 times per year), and more. Please reach out to me if you would like to figure out more about how you want to be involved!
Ok, a little more about me. I am a Cricket alum, a Cricket parent (though both my children are middle schoolers now - boohoo!), a second grade teacher, and I live just right down the hill in the Crestwood neighborhood. I love this school and this program. I have a mini-bernedoodle, Buddy. And I LOVE to be outside. This summer my family traveled all over in the outdoors - Maine with family, Oregon with friends and alpine skiing in July (true!), and Idaho for hiking, biking and rafting. All these places are beautiful. And we are lucky to have a school with an incredibly beautiful space for our children to learn and grow.
Hi my name is Maddy and I will be the Gardener in Residence for this starting school year. I am so excited to be in an amazing program and dedicated school for garden education. I moved to Madison in 2022 after undergrad and started working in the design industry. In 2024, I left this field field to explore my passions and interests in community based work. I have since worked two seasons at CSA farms, worked at local farmers markets and community events with Rooted, and am currently a field crew at Troy Farm. This fall I am also happy to be starting UW Stevens Point's Sustainable and Resilient Food Systems graduate program. I am looking forward to meeting you all and Crestwood's students and sharing a love of things growing with kids and the outdoors.
If you are considering volunteering in your student’s classroom, on field trips, or in the school during school hours, you will need to complete the MMSD volunteer application process. If a volunteer may have unsupervised contact with students such as a tutor, field trip chaperone or classroom assistant, a background check is required. (Level 2 positions) More information can be found here: https://www.madison.k12.wi.us/partnerships/volunteering. Past volunteers will need to log in and reset their passwords. Once I created a “new account” with my same email, the system was able to find and link my old account automatically.
Thank you to everyone who has already signed up to lead initiatives and events this year! We have a few spots that still need to be filled- please consider signing up!
Check out the volunteer sign up document:
If you would like to join the Outdoor Ed Committee, we are always looking for more help (with planning/organizing or during our gardener time)! Please email kristin@crestwoodcapt.us to learn more!
