Outdoor Education

Spring planning is already underway with the Outdoor Education Program at Crestwood. As we work to think about spring plantings, we are excited to have two different projects underway.

  • Project 1: Adding to our Crestwood forest. The DNR has approved an application for tree donation including 25 Hazelnut, 25 Elderberry, 25 Red Oak, and 25 White Pine. We are hoping to plant these at the end of April!

  • Project 2: We are looking to expand/plant/restore portions of our native butterfly garden in the front of Crestwood, clear invasive species near the edge of the woods, and plant bushes at the front of the school that will provide food to birds. At the end of January, committee members on outdoor education submitted an application through the Plant Dane Native Plant Program, and our program was approved! Now we need to work on funding these plants.

If you are interested in supporting this project, please visit: https://ripple-effects.com/Order/Donate and select Crestwood Elementary. Plants cost $2.50/each and must be ordered in multiples of 4. The deadline to donate to our project is March 22nd.

COVID Information

If your child is symptomatic and you have insurance please call your kids doctor. They can usually get tested same day, and get results in 24 hours or less. This is the BEST way to go if they have symptoms.

MMSD test clinics

If they don’t have symptoms or you don’t have insurance, MMSD has a lot of testing sites. Memorial High School is often the busiest, but there are many clinics on the west side. Often results from any site using COVID Connect (English , Español, Hmong) to register take longer.

Here is a spreadsheet that’s updated regularly by MMSD showing all testing locations. Crestwood now has a testing site! COVID Clinic Test Sites

Free in-home tests

Through the US Postal Service, you can order four (4) free rapid COVID tests shipped to your home (maximum 4 per household). MMSD guidance is fluid as is the science on COVID, but having rapid tests on hand may allow your child to get back in school sooner if they should test positive. To order your free testing kits, go to https://special.usps.com/testkits.

Through the state of Wisconsin, you can get an at-home saliva collection kit, which is a PCR test. You will need to collect your sample live on Zoom, so a phone or computer is required. To order your free PCR test, go to https://www.dhs.wisconsin.gov/covid-19/collection.htm.
